AFZ LEGAL Status

The Legal Framework

Law no.4 of 1993 ratifies the following:

• The establishment of a Free Zone in the city of Aden.
• The application of a Free Zone system by phases.
• The geographical layout of Free Zone boundaries is prescribed by the Council of Ministers.
• Zones shall be established in the territories of the Republic of Yemen by a resolution of the Prime Minister and approval of the Council of Ministers. This shall entail the locations of the Free Zones, their areas and the purpose for which they are established.

Functions of the Aden free zone

The authority's activities in realizing the Free Zone programs are:

• To issue licenses and legal documents necessary for projects and investment activities and occupations permitted within the Free Zone.
• Allocate space, warehouses and quays necessary for projects within the Free Zones.
• Enable and provide project owners the necessary services and facilities for their activity in the Free Zone.
• Acquisition and rental of lands.
